Won't be so high tech with automatic power switch though, maybe later on that.
I have duct tape and pipe glue. And have a sawdust barrel 50gal.

Will be a work in progress but I think that will suffice.

Thanks Jerry, I quit smoking years ago, but working fiberglass without serious precautions was a mistake.
Tons of 'How to Make' this type of collector. It helps keep the dust down and out of the shop vac--this one is about as simple as it gets--

MikeT get a quality exhaust filter or if you are not worried about heating or cooling issues vent it outside and into water. Once you suck it up you still need to extract the dust from the air or you are no further ahead. Some dust collection systems simply recirculate the very fine particles, and those are the most dangerous of all the bits.

Somewhere. Probably buried somewhere here I have seen a post about a box on a table that someone had made for working in their apartment.

Not 100% sealed like a sandblast box but with a similar theme.

I like the idea of a compact system so that 5gal bucket and small vac look very great!
Also the point about the ultra-fine particulate makes me wonder if the filters in those shop vacs are good enough.. ?

Richard what are your plans on that system? a more quiet vacuum fitting in a compact workstation sounds great.

I think that these suggestions highlight a few good points.
    - What size of dust removal system do I need?
    - Assure air quality.
    - Will it affect the air conditioners ability to keep my room comfortable? ...raise my electric bill?

Tim that's a good idea, I can imagine the box clearly! with a filter and safety glass..

I've been kinda busy today. Started out helping take down a 6 element Beam antenna for that was up a 70ft tower. He had too many trees around to do it the old-fashioned way, so he ordered a Crane. Talk about doing it the easy way!

Then went home and helped the wife with some shopping. Fun! Ha.

Then had a DR. Appointment. regular checkup with a skin doc. No issues at this time.

Came home and went to the store again to buy some wood for the 14 day Razor Box. Got it cut up and here is the outcome. Still, need to finish up a few more razors, but you get the idea...

Made of Purple Heart Wood. I'm going to try to get it sanded and a few coats of Tru-oil on it this week.

While I had the Saws out, I cut up the rest of the Purpleheart wood for scales blanks...

Got the new Scale blanks put away. Guess I really didn't need any more scales blanks, but I didn't have any Purpleheart Wood, so why not.

Now, I'm kicking back with a cold glass of Ice Tea and spending some quality time with my Birdy Buddy. He needs some of my time too.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

If you are going to recycle the air from your dust collection system unless it is very low volume of usage I would recommend multiple filters.

At my work we hepa filter big units and use pre, mid, and hepa filters. Depending how they are used and maintained the pre's last 3-6 months . The mid's last 2-3 years and the hepa's last 5 plus.

you catch most of the stuff in the cheaper ones. Low volume it might not be worth it but there it is.

I agree with Rezdog and blow it outside if you can afford the energy usage.

Tim that's a good idea, I can imagine the box clearly! with a filter and safety glass..
All good items to talk about and try.
For me, A wood box the size of the bathroom exhaust fan (quiet, cheap) and a space/ slot for a filter between it and the area of the box designated as intake. The fans have a four inch outlet that has to go through the side of the box. Size about the distance between floor joists. I,at a jewelers bench pin, sawing sanding against it.
So I shall probably add a 4" hose to a catch funnel to bring to the actual working location. I want to protect my bedroom floor and atmosphere. Band sawing and other cutting can be done at friends' shops. Rough 1" slack belt scale contouring also
The sky is the limit! How much room to you need to protect?
Do a search for bench top dust collectors, there are quite a few manufactured.

Tray is below the plastic shield.
Do a search for down draft sanding dust collector..
Many choices, any will do something for the style of work you do.
