My wife has a yoga mat that I think I could cut some off the end without her noticing... to use as cushion for the table strop.
    Maybe a dangerous idea though.

    That's looking good man!

I found that computer mouse pad material works well and is durable. Can get it in most material shops and some hobby shops inexpensively.

    This article might help.

I've read that one a couple times. When I get wood that is oily, I wipe it down with Acetone a few times to try and cut the oils. This set of scales was wiped down 6 times and I was still getting stuff off of them. When this happens to the first coat of finish, I will wipe it with Acetone when it drys as good as it can dry. This takes off what has leached out of the wood and mixed with the finish. Then another thin coat of finish. This has seemed to work for me. It cuts the bad stuff off but leave a little coating, then seals again.
I just checked them and they are dry now. Its a PITA but it works. I tried Shellac but wasn't happy with the stuff. I have not used both Shellac then tru-oil but it might work.

Leather Attached. Its got a bit of cushion and I put some rubber feet on the bottom to keep it still on the bench. Should be a great bench strop.

I wonder how many more laps you will have to do on this shorter strop or maybe you only use this much in the middle of your hanging ones.

My plan is to use it when honing and I think I might need to strop to touch something up. The stropping area is about 11 inches so not really short, but it is shorter than what I'm used too.

I like it Jerry, the cushion is a fine idea. I have one I made that is simply leather glued to wood and have wanted to redesign it so it is flexible. So many projects though.
