I totally dig that abalone stuff. Sweet!
For some reason, it seems to go best with Japanese blades to me.
Hey! It's whatever you like! Like I always say...It's only a pin!

So I have sanded and rubbed with Scotch-brite on my scales.
CA'd the wedge to the side which was broken. Took my steel collars out to the buffer a bit on a pin-vise.

Then, I slathered them with Sharpie a few times and allowed that to dry.
More Scotch-brite along with the grain.

I will now slather them with Neetsfoot oil with a q-tip, flipping and reapplying for the next few days. Turned-out like I wanted. Still old and imperfect.
    Perfect!

Hum.....After clearing out the in-law's house recently, I found several versions of something no longer used. I NOW think it a holder for recipes on index cards. You would stand-up your card in the slot and refer to it at a glance.

So I am slathering with vintage Blue Ribbon Neetsfoot Compound.

Interesting, this old horn is a few-hundred years dry.
It seems to have shrunk enough to give me some lead wedge to tap-in as I am done.

Never one to stick it into a bag much.
    I like to see what's going-on.
Stuff goes on all bubbly and settles into a pool.
One wipe of the finger and it goes all bubbly again.
    Pools smooth very soon.
Is this the oil going in and the air coming out?

    Does it matter?

Well Tom, that thought briefly came to mind, but I pushed it out as any red-blooded man would when such alien thoughts invade our masculine sensibilities...
I must say I do like those cute strawberries though!

Definitely not gonna sand off those strawberries, they stay. Hehehe

I think it will be sized so that the upcoming courses and desserts will be stacked over the strawberries and stood-up as needed.
Hung-up by the sink on the side of the cabinet it is a cute strawberry thing until needed.

    What women used to do.

    Index cards are 5x3.

Your little girl is gonna be pissed if you mess-up those strawberries, MikeT!

I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has done a side by side comparison of prime neatsfoot compound vs pure.

Perhaps the difference is too small to notice. Maybe one is better. Who knows.

It is cool though to use an old can from way back on old scales!
Now the search is on for neatsfoot from the 1800s!

I dunno, MikeT! It's just what I have! Forget where I got it, TBH.
    Don't stink. Works good!
    Plenty old, I think
