Just the usual. Unpinn, clean n flatten the scales, sand and a soak in neats foot oil.

The blade took a lot of elbow grease, with steel wool n 3M, Emory on a oily rag, Never Dull n 3M, then polished by hand with Flitz. Pinned with silver nickle rod, and Austin's silver nickle rosettes.

It took everything inside me to keep from putting sandpaper to this one, there's a bunch of fine pitting on the blade, but all I had to do was look at how thin the grind was, and think how I sanded my first restore, to foil.

    Nope..!!! Ain't doing it.!!

To the hones, and a test shave in store for tomorrow.

I bought a razor with alligator skin pattern on the scales a while back. Cleaned them up good and have been looking for the right blade.

I picked up a Dovo 38 recently and have been really impressed with the shaves I get from it. But crappy plastic scales.

I like those alligator scales. Glad you put a nice blade in them.

I like those scales and have wondered before what it would take to make scales with real alligator or other leather...?
    Anybody seen them?
Would probably need a backer of some kind?
Probably shave down the backside of the leather?
Maybe use an epoxy on the back for rigidity?
So crazy... it just might work! Hehehe

Interesting. My 1st thought is you really don't want leather getting wet ...... but it is alligator. hmmm.

I bet that would feel great to hold. I would want to seal the surface with something.

That looks cool. The scales are old. From Electric Cutlery.
They made them in at least 3 hues, the black being the most attractive, IMO.

Cleaned up these 3 tonight to get ready for scales. The scales material is what they are leaning on. I will start on those tomorrow. The blades are close but will need a little more work. I have two other razors for the rest of the scales I'm making. Might only do a couple at a time. Too many at once can be a pain.

    Nice!!
Me, I've gone to the shop again and made these pairs of bone scales for some of the blades I have ready to fit.

I think you have figured out that I like gun-stock scales for wide blades.

    Those look great Richard.
Here are the ones I just got finished cutting out. Still, need to be drilled and wedges made and hand sanding before the finish coats of Tru-oil. All are 0.085". But, I got a good start on them. Purple Heart, Santos, Bocate, Brazilian Cherry and Tiger woods.
