I think that it was some kind of card of envelope holder. The cross piece of wood has a little slot. I'm gonna put a couple screws in that for strength and leather over the strawberry painting. Mount it on a 1"x6"x6" piece of wood and deepen the groove on the surface for a blade to work on spines.
I like the jig idea, it's like an operating table for blades!
Saw rare earth magnets at auto shop but were a bit pricey.
I'll keep looking.
Edit: oh man yes that's probably what it was, a cheese block!Last edited by MikeT; 08-25-2018 at 06:32 PM.

Wow, you guys inspire me to try new things in the shop with your inventive methods! Mike-Another gorgeous FR Rattler in the works-please don't buy them all up! And MikeT-Now I want to make a sanding jig too. I know my carpal tunnel would thank me lol.
And Jerry-I can't wait to see how those five turn out. I'm pretty sure you and Mike have got the Tru-Oil finish down cold. That may be my next project. Tom-You have a solution for every problem (and I secretly super-glue one side of wedges sometimes too!).

For cutting slices of cheese. This is what i was thinking too but without the handle and wire for the slicing i wasnt sure. Then the picture wasnt cheese so that thru me too.
The Tru-oil is nice and works well. But those Abiloni scales you made are very nice as well. They sure would stand out in the collection of razors. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanks, Jerry-Not everybody digs the almost supernatural "bling" (for lack of a better word) of abalone, especially on that WB FBU-probably heresy to some. I did just order some nice feathered horn and a book-matched set of spalted, stabilized maple burl, so I'll be going back to my roots soon!

The abalone looks good, especially in the wedge pics where you can see more depth of the scales. But I do have to admit, I think the FBU would look better if the scales were in the shape of the originals. But that's one mans opinion.
