When we bailed, it was 10-11 wagaon loads containing 210 bails per wagon, stacked by hand. Then unloaded and stacked by hand into the loft using the sabre toothed rope crane attached to the the barn roof. You know which one I mean. [emoji57] We did end up using an elevator towards the end of me working there. Now he does round bails.[emoji1]

Yeah I know the kind of "crane" you're talking about.

When I was young we literally did thousands of bales. It would take about a week per cutting and we had to rent barns for storage. Sure don't miss them days.
I round bale most of ours as well. I only do about 60 acres of hay now though

Thanks Martin, yes they knew how to make quality back then. Ski had a new 10" Craftsman table saw and when he acquired his dad's old saw he sold the newer one as it wasn't 1/2 the machine. As I mentioned Sears still had the proper cast iron table extensions so Ski purchased and installed them. He then bought a Really Nice Fence for it. You can see it in the front.

It took a bit to get the unit all aligned and square but it's right on the money.

We'd found the model # and I located the parts blow up online. Basically now the only parts that are available from Sears are common bolts, C-clips etc. However they did still have a replacement drive shaft. Go figure.

The only thing that I wish Ski would have let me do was replace the bearings on the drive shaft. However without the shaft being hooked up to the motor and you give the blade a bit of a turn it spins freely for quite awhile. Anyway at least I know how to tear it back down if the bearings go to hell.

Spent a couple hours with a break in the middle on honing the Joseph Rodgers. It was really feeling good on the stones. Started setting the bevel with three layers of tape. Then when it was set I went to two layers and then finished with two layers. All was looking so good and feeling and sounding great. Thought I might just be getting lucky here. Went for a test shave and the toe was good, but the heal couldn't cut whiskers to save its life. The edge felt good and looked good but when testing, NO GO! I've never been any good at the HHT so didnt even try that. Everyone in my house has fine hair and it dont work to well for testing.

Guess I'll be starting over. Tomorrow I'll go back to the 1K and it shouldn't take any time on that stone then start working up again. Thought I was going to get lucky on this one but life goes on and you learn. Just wanted to let you all know how it went. Picked up the Dovo and it mowed them down!

My main honing tool is my loupe. I believe it is 30X, I got it as a gift from Geezer a really long time ago. I find restoration honing to be a little challenging at time. How I do it is watch the edge almost straight down and when the apex comes together that edge pretty much becomes invisible. I also check from the side and if it is chippy at all or it is not all coming together at the same time, I kill the edge on my thumbnail and keep going on the 1K until it is perfect. It does not happen often but I have had blade that I have killed like five or six times before moving up. If it has been a super chippy edge I might kill it again on the end of the 4K. I rarely kill the edge after that. If I get a chippy looking 8K edge I will likely drop back to the 4K. I truly believe that squeezing every last drop of sharpness and comfort is all about what you do at the 1K and 4K levels. When I am coming to the end of the 1K and the end of the 4K I am doing very light strokes for the last 20.
