Thanks Mike. I bet i could just go buy a heat lamp bulb for the cost of shipping. Ha. But i will keep it in mind. They are not a special plastic set of scales but they look nice. Maybe this weekend, if i get the chance, ill play with them. The winter weather and the wife are taking up alot of my time right now.

Hey I just had an idea, don't know if this is what you mean by heat lamp... but it may work better than standard bulbs.
    An IR Heat Bulb!

Somewhere I saw that Bob can't make razors anymore because of a medical condition.

[QUOTE=outback;1844251]Started work on another for MikeT. A Tally Ho with real nice patina. Gonna leave it this way.

Mike was concerned if the chips could be honed out without going into the etch. I looked at it several times, and decided to go for it. It did break through the very corner near the toe, but not into the etch itself. Still needs to go to the finisher, so that will wait till the original scales have been finished.

The engraving says ...Americans Never Surrender.

    Beautiful Tally Ho MikeT.

Forget the mystery. I already have one of these & I showed it a long time ago but I now have one made by W.R Case & Sons.

I had one of those! Gifted it to someone, I think. Nice!

I am busy in the shop, but am taking-on hand-sanding and polishing one of these tangs a day. Two down, three to go!

These razors have been hanging on a factory display for 80-100 years with the blades open.
Where the hard-rubber scales met the tangs is some unusual corrosion. You can scrape the black top of it off with an SE blade, but underneath looks like an electrical short took place. Strange. Lots of sanding and polishing to get them out.

I have one of those Herders on the bench too. I have three sets of scales and some honing to get cracking on this weekend.

Yeah, I got lucky on the iron on the scale with the razor still together. I turned it on to about 1/3 power for about 20 minutes like I said. I kept checking it to make sure they didn't melt to the iron. I'm sure I would have smelled it. One can always smell that camphor in 'em. It works great.

Jerry, if you aren't sure how they'll be, if you have a test scale, try that. For the horn, I turned it to half power & left it for 2-3 hours but I'm not going to say all irons are alike as far as the heating control but most likely similar.
