    Last work of mine :

1820 blade, late 1700 ivory lace (piece of brocken fan from Dieppe), pinned with silver on tortoise (mid-1800).

Very stressful pinning, finaly achieved (took me four years to overcome the stress and do it for good ^^)

Nicely done. Both are gorgeous, but I covet the older razor with ivory fan scales. Just beautiful. How does it shave?

It is still to be tested, but the steel was very soft during the sharpening :-)

None of my unrestored razors were calling out to me so I decided to go back to one of my first projects and correct some things I wasn't supper happy with.

I had made the collars from the nose of some bullet jackets and I never could get them quite right. I picked up some copper washers from micro fasteners and got out the doming block. I think the new ones are much better. I also added some more taper to the wedge. The last thing I did was tame the point, that thing was evil It tried to bite me every time I used it.

You can just see the muted tip through the scales. Hopefully this will make it a little more user friendly.

I would have this pinned back up, but apparently after peening one end I put my pin vice and the pin stock down somewhere other than with my hammer and file. Of course that was my last piece of nickel I've been looking for that thing for four days, I finally gave up and ordered a new pin vise last night. I'll get some more wire from Austin or change my mind and see how copper pins look. I wanted to get some more collars anyway. The silly thing is, I know I'll find it as soon as the new stuff shows up.

Looks good, Dave! I normally don't like those scales much, but those look good too.
    Did you polish them?

This is a test, this is only a test...a little bit of trying silly things.

Since I'm waiting on parts (I still haven't found my pin vice) I decided to see how copper pins would look with the copper collars. I had bought what I thought was 1/16 pin stock, turns out I missed the little .014 number after the 1/16 and it was actually copper tube with an .014 ID. Gave it a try anyway, maybe the hole would look cool The pivot had the hole visible and the wedge pin got closed up so I could at least see what solid copper would look like.

Turns out I'm not a fan of the look. I'm also not sure copper is strong enough for pins, it felt really soft when I peened it . It may be because this was a tube, but the pivot got really loose after opening and closing it a dozen or so times. It ultimately pulled the peen through the collar and came apart.

Looking at the collars I think I need to either dome them a bit more or reduce the diameter. I'm a little iffy on the way they look now. Opinions welcome.
