I have basically no experience compared with Mike, but try getting the Milwaukee brand marker, their black has way less blue to it plus it seems to penetrate better. I use them all the time for work, I won’t even buy a sharpie anymore.

I'm back on wood scales with this figured English Walnut set destined for a Crown and Sword. I figured out a way to dry quickly between coats of Tru-Oil with paper-clips attached to my heat register. With a recent cold snap and my dry gas heat, it dries very quickly!

I put mine on top of the furnace, with a paper tent over them, to keep dust off. Always said, winter was the time for scales, no problems with humidity

The top of hanging 4’ fluorescent lights, over the ballast area is a nice warm spot too.

Well wiped off to eliminate any dust I trust? I'd hate to look and see how much dust is on my 4' hanging fluorescent lights in my shop there is--

Scales have gone to a oil, spa.
Placed in a Plano 3600 tackle box, dividers removed, and enough neatsfoot to cover. Then placed on top of the furnace to warm the oil, and let soak a few days.

    Less mess, retain and reuse.

Mr. Outback, your solutions to problems seem so obvious, but I would never think of them.

I was taught the KISS theory, a long time ago

    Keep it simple, stupid.

I have been so guilty of that on occasion.

Been wanting a Dubl Duck for quite some time, but haven't had an opportunity to get one on the cheap and isn't cell rotten to the bone.

Lucked out on the 'bay and picked up this Dwarf for a song.

There is some egregiously awful spine wear, particularly at the toe on one side. You can see it in the first picture. Looks like whoever owned it had a bit too much "flourish" in their honing stroke.

There's some rust on the bevel, quick fix with an old DE blade and some polish. Made sure I got a decent bevel on 1k/2k before I dump too much time on it. There's some surface rust to remove from the face of the blade and heavy-ish patina on the tang, but that'll get done once the scales are removed
