Did a LOT of hand polishing yesterday with Mother's Mag. Gonna try and do some honing today.

I think some people used grease guns on the pivot of their razors.

Get ya some 3M marine metal restorer/polish, Josh. Its the best I've used so far, for cleaning razors.

That is what I plan on buying next time. Sounds like good stuff.

So I've been playing with the idea of making a 7 day set doing an acid etch on the spine with the days of the week. So I decided to do a little experiment with a junker just to see how it works out.

This is Sharpie because it's easy to draw on and easy to remove.

Made a frame around it with blue electrical tape.

In this case I used gun blue, again because it is quick and easy.

After a rinse I removed the tape.

Used alcohol wipe to remove the Sharpie

This is what is left.

In fairness this blade was not cleaned and polished like it would be if this were a real finished product and the lettering would be better as would the resist border yada, yada, yada. Of course this is also not on the spine. This was just to play around with it and get my feet wet doing it.

Try the yellow Frog tape. It won't bleed.

That frog tape must be very sticky, because they are slippery little things.

Especially tree frogs

You can take the catches out of that steel with some jewelers files and a socket extension.
Use the files to gently unbarb the catch points the chase it all smooth and burnish using the 3/8 6” socket extension shaft, like a knife to burnish your repair spots.
Will save your knives and keep confidence in your steel.
I have a few and some have been hard used before my acquisition.
The Dick is a great steel as others have mentioned.

A couple of different angles to show the sheen.

This is all still experimental though. I'm going to sand it all back off and try another/few/several more times to try and perfect it before I try it on razors I care about. Calligraphy is not my strong suit so I might try a stamp or iron on transfer for better quality plus just for the experience of doing it that way

There are kits out there for etching. I believe some have the protector on a transfer sheet. If you go to a computer generated design it will be the easiest way to repeat your font, and make the same thing seven times.
