Getting this one ready to sell and decided this one needed to be re-pinned and when I got done that's what I found.
I think that the proper terminology is you 'Were' getting this one ready to sell.

With that said, I always have the razor inside of the scales when I'm pinning the razor into the pivot but I've never ever had this happen.

I do use 'Mock Ups' when I'm pinning the wedge but again, I've never had a blade crack during pinning so you got me.

Following Toms model, I loose pin the razor with everything all taped tight together. Them following Richards model, I have the blade full open while finish pinning.

I've cracked blades before but I always knew when I did it. I pin with the blades closed all the time because I figure it makes for better blade placement. Never had that happen before. I take it from what you're saying I have something to learn about this

It is possible that the blade had a tiny fracture to start and the vibration of pinning opened it up and made it obvious.

My last few whacks with the hammer are done with the blade open. Just my way. A couple hits and close it. Open and hit it a couple more times until its just like I want it.

Gasman: the finish on those scales is gorgeous, well done sir!

PaulFLUS: That's a bummer. I pin with the blade closed and haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood). I think Rezdog's theory sounds pretty reasonable.

This one should clean up pretty well. I'm not planning on unpinning the wedge, I unpinned the pivot so I could get to the bits of rust on the tang better. I think a little work on the heel and then see if I can hide some of the hone wear with sanding.

Yes, cream colored celluloid and a black celluloid wedge with nickel pins and collars.

blades needed heal work and sanding to hide the bad hone wear.
Both scales finished with Tru-oil and now ready for the hones.
