    Stay away from pool table slate from China. A lot of large shiny inclusions. Also stay away from slate from northern Minnesota. The inclusions in them are Mica.

    Started the restore on the Henry Sears.

    Scales were a little warped. Cleaned them up a little with soap and water, soaked in boiling water, clamped between two blocks of wood all day. They straightened up nicely. There were just a couple of small bug bites which I am filling now.
    Did some light sanding starting at 800, 2k, 3k to even out the tiny bit of pitting and the little devil's spit under the engraving. Oh yeah, darkened that a little also.

    Waiting on my son to get back from Walmart with some hair dye to re-dye the scales back to faux tortoise shell. Then into the Neatsfoot for a couple of days.

    Looking good, Paul. You should try using a old clothes iron for flattening warped horn. It's a lot quicker, no mess, less FLUS.

    Actually I've used an iron before. I just wanted to be different this time. Figured I'd mix it up a bit.

    Hair dye works, you can save it over and over again.

    If it wasn't for the hone wear I'd just pin it up and take it to the hones. I wan to try and hide the hone wear (haven't tried it yet), so off to the sandpaper.
