Great one Roy.
Thanks guys on the brushes. Aaron, Im working on my CA finish and am getting pretty happy with it so these are 9 to 12 coats of CA. And it only takes a little time compared to the days it takes to do scales.
Lather them up is the first plan for them but... I have to admit one was made-to-order for someone. Now Im not taking orders on brushes guys so dont start contacting me. This was just a trial thing. And I have to say making a brush to order is not as fun as just letting the shape happen.
It was fun to try but the preasure is on when making a shape someone else wants. Now I know why the cost of custom brushes is high. The materials and effort that goes into it is more than I realised. So in the futute you may see one of these brushes in someone elses SOTD. But for now, Im not selling. At least until I get a stock on hand and get my selling license on SRP.It's just Sharpening, right?

Very nice Jerry. I must say I'm impressed with how quickly you progressed to this quality.

Beautiful brushes Jerry.
Impressive work...that lathe and the tools were a good investment.

Not a bad idea Mike. Thanks all. I didnt get any turned on my Sunday but made a handwheel for the lathe and a large knob for the Kockout rod.
I didnt want to use big money wood to make the wheel so I glued to pieces of 3/4" plywood together and turned it. Made for a nice wheel. What comes factory on the lather is only 2.5" dia. This will work much better. And with a little sanding and some Shine Juice to seal its good to go.It's just Sharpening, right?

Looks good
I am wondering why you didn't make a handle to be placed toward the outside of the diameter of the wheel to turn the new wheel with? It too could have been made of plywood. Just wondering.
When I was 14 I started 'working' for a local machinist (Bert) for a merit badge for Boy Scouts. He had his very first lathe that he'd ever purchased. He said when he had finalized the deal he asked the seller if he could also purchase a length of Brass Rod to use as a knock out. He said the guy said "Oh I could sell you some but after awhile you'd just grab any piece of shaft to drive the center out". Bert said he told the guy that he promised that he'd Never Ever use anything other than that brass rod to drive the center out with and he never did!
He had built a pair of hooks to hold that original brass rod under that lathe and he always used it to drive the chuck out with.
I'm just wondering if that picture was of a nickle silver coated brass shaft or steel. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.
