I ground a couple of hardened Dorko 444 6/8” blanks in that style of grind. I used my flat platen and ran the blade parallel to the direction of belt travel. With that method it wasn’t much slower than using a wheel in a hollowing action, though the likelihood of trashing a blade seems way higher as you get near finished. Keeping the edge straight isn’t straight forward either.
If I were to grind one from scratch I think setting the geometry with a large wheel then going to the flat platen would be the way to go to keep from getting a wonky edge, all after heat treat.
I do really want to grind a lancet at some point, which would require both types of grinding.

New latch, who dis?
My favorite part of making this thing was when I ground it down to about the right shape and it was so hot I quenched it, then I tried to drill out the hole.
Blunted one drill bit and broke another bad enough it was stuck in the hole. This is the downside of using scrap from when I waterjet cut a bunch of razor blanks from 1084. A steel that's so simple to heat treat, I can apparently do it accidentally.
So there was only one thing to do. Anneal the little jerk. Which did the trick and I was able to easily drill out the old drill bit and the rest of the part.
Before reinstalling it into the razor, I darkened the latch arm by ... heat treating it for real and quenching in oil. There's no earthly reason for the thing to be super hard, but it was a really quick way to make it look as weathered as the blade.
The washers are Austin's excellent small washers. The latch arm is in with a single piece of 1/16th peened over with a specially made doming cap (another intentional heat-treat, but this time made from O2 drill rod).
Tomorrow I hand it back to its happy owner and I'll try and do a proper writeup of the absurd lengths I went to to get this all done.
It took about 8 months.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

Absolutely beautiful restoration.
Given the razors rarity, well worth the effort.
Bravo!!

Still no razor work!.....
Covid crap has me so far in the hole I am taking on most anything that pays.
Been doing things nobody wants to do and charging a premium.
Now it's an '08 Ram 3500 farm truck. Evaporator leak. Also getting a new heater core and all 5 of the plastic air doors replaced with custom aluminum ones with all new factory actuators. A day in so far.
Whadda mess! Will reconstruct rotten foam to ductwork. Lots more mess under the hood as well.

As the song says:
No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime you find
You get what you need
Some work and income is better than none. It may take some time, but things will get better. As twas said, hang in there. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
