NOPE! A year ago or so my good friend Ray 'walleyeyeman' did an experiment for me. (For those that don't know; Ray is a very talented and fussy machinist) anyway he cut a piece of the same kind of acrylic, then checked it for square and recorded the measurements from using a micrometer.

He then placed the piece in their dishwasher's utensil tray and left it there for a month. It was washed and heated to dry daily.

When he recovered it and rechecked the piece he found that it was still square and measured the same.

I see no reason to not use the dishwasher to clean and sanitize this tool

As you talk to Ray, tell him he is missed around here, Roy!

I meant more for the SS polish. I usually avoid washing anything in the dishwasher but plates, utensils and pyrex. All my pots and pans are handwashed, mainly to maintain the nice factory polish. Of course, that got screwed up by the scrub portion of a scotch pad (the plastic & sponge one). Now they're scratched to hell anyways and defeats the purpose, just habit of the days when my family had teflon everything.

As you've found the hand washing didn't save the polished surface. I've Never been a fan of coated pans. Even when using plastic utensils they always had places where the coating came loose. Those missing pieces probably ended up in someone's food.

I believe that the Teflon Coating is now prohibited from use on cooking equipment due to ' health concerns'.

My friend, we'll have to see. They are a little thinner than I think they should be. We'll see once I get the handle traced and the saw marks sanded out.

This is the first time working with this acrylic/should be interesting.

If it doesn't work out, I'll re-order from Woodturningz and have them cut the blanks on that Gigantic band saw that they use. The blade is 1" wide so the pieces come out really nice and even. The custom cut charge for 1/8" blanks is only $4. These pieces my friend Ski did on his table saw and while they are pretty good Woodturningz band saw does a much nicer job with A LOT less waste.
