Thanked: 77That went an entirely different way from what I was thinking.
I was thinking that if the ivory ban was lifted people would start bringing these things out of hiding and we would have a chance at vintage artifacts such as these fans. You also have to remember that half the Ivory on our old Ivory razors were harvested illegally anyway and contributed to the endangerment of the species weather it was vintage or not. The only reason I would like the ivory ban lifted especially in the states not so much and international trade is because of how well it criminalizes the innocent.

Thanked: 4827I will buy new ivory when they come up with a method of testing and certifying new ivory to guarantee it was not poached. With that guarantee it would ensure that the ivory purchased was from animals in parks that died of natural causes AND it actually supported the park operations, or was from a captive elephant that also died of natural causes.

It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

A Junk Yard Dog becomes a hero!
A nice Blue Thuringian from a junk shop
For those that wonder how we find them in the wild. The top photos tell what things we look for.
And for those who wonder "why?"
Actually ended up a common size ± a frilly MM.
An hours lapping work upon 220 wet/ dry and finer grits, wet, 'water stuck' to a marble tile.
Have fun!!!

Sticking to my current program of working on what I already have.
After a few attempts, finally got my John Jay closing center!

I rest my case.

Tom that's a beauty!
Do you have pics of those scales when it was taken apart? I'm wondering how those fancy doodad-fingamobobs are constructed and assembled.. are there backings on the scales? I can't tell on my phone..
At some point I'll be working silver again with my kiln and those doodads and the fancy end-cap bolsters seem within reason to fabricate..“You must unlearn what you have learned.”
