Had to pop in and see the updates, take a break from the shop.

Working on a jig to let me do some custom finger joint work on a box project, so while I was at it I made a sled for the table saw as well. Always wanted one and never got around to making one, till now. No pics of the sled, but below is the jointing jig set for 5mm fingers..

Crude, but it is consistent for spacing.

Are you running that jig on the table saw? Forester box joint blade from Lee Valley? They work like magic for having a nice clean bottom in the cut and require no after the fact cleanup.

Yes, it's on the table saw with two 24 tpi blades slapped together for my 5mm finger. Crude for sure, I will have to check out lee valley. Planned on going there for hardware for this box anyway.. Dado blades are quite pricey so I slapped this together as an idea with what I had on hand.

I have walked that path a few times and have used dados and stacked saw blades with fine spacers. Once I bought the Forester blade I never looked back. The down side is that it only cuts two sizes of joints. The up side is that you only need two jigs. I find it easier to cut the boards much wider and sacrifice a little trimming in the end. It makes for a much more clean finish.

I have NO idea what you two are talking about, but it sounds right!

This is an sample of a box joint.
The ends are cut with the board standing on end on a table saw. There are other ways but that is the technique we are talking about. So the bottom of the cut winds up being the vertices join in the joint. For it to be clean and tight the cut needs to be clean.
