I made them for him. And yes, all sanding as well as the bevels were done by hand.

Yep, that's the bog oak scales I made for Tom. Black.....!! That stuff gives it new definition, a whole new shade of black, I'd say.

Are those the solid brass domes I made on there? Goes nice with the black oak!

One set is ( biggins on wedge )
The others seized, and wouldn't tighten up. So I made a match to the biggins and repinned them.

That one turned out great! Great shape on the scales and texture of the wood grain, I bet it feels great in the hand. Yeah, I've since been drilling the hole through those domes a little larger than before to avoid any seizing. I think those ones there was when I was still drilling at 1/16th, didn't leave much room to work with.

Dunno if any of you remember when I tried to glue Bakelite. That didn't work.

It was for a W&B Bow razor that was kind of rusty when I got it but cleaned up okay, just a few pitted areas. Anyway I made some scales for it, but more interestingly, when it came time to make a wedge, I realized I had something.

Some people might say I'm a pack rat for having saved a diving weight I found a long time ago. But see, it was useful in the end.

As a kid I had a paper route, I would pick up tire weights that were along the road side. I melted them down, and used them to make fishing lures and weights.
They work for wedges too. [emoji6]

Default What are you working on?

This is what I had going on in the last couple of days.. A rusty old piece of Yasuki steel AKA Pechika #55.

    Sanding, sanding and more sanding....

Then I thought, why not pick up a few jnats and try polishing this properly... Call me a lunatic, but this got me so excited, I think I'll just keep doing this in the future. Hardening line popped out, check it:

Anyway, I wasn't done polishing, and I also wanted to etch the stamp to make it pop, so long process short... this is the result on the tang after final polishing with sandpaper and some acid applied.

    Scales done up...

Now put it back together (after repolishing the tang of course)

I may post a better pic in the daylight, but she sure gave me a very nice shave tonight.
