We have passed around a Passat with a bad heater core for 5 to 6 years because of similar. If you are young the heated seats will get you through a Minnesota winter...... My son just bought his wife a new vehicle and the Passat is now a Summer car!

Thank goodness this sort of thing goes back together pretty quick.
