Sounds like stacked washers. Can you post a pic?

Pretty hard to get a pic but this is it. When assembled it looked like 1.

    Yup, stacked washers..
Whatever you do, and this is vitally important, don't mix them up...

No not really, although there is an inside and outside one if you look closely that fit together to go on either side.

As seen in the picture, I'd guess the top one is an outside one, the next two are against the scale, and the lowest one is again an outside..

I think really, while re pinning, they would level out no matter what you did..
Could be wrong though so I try to keep the orientation the same as removed.

Only saw part of that reply and it had me scared for a moment. Ill pay attention going together with it. Whats the point of stacking them if it looks like just 1 washer?

Not that I've seen so far, maybe the wedge isn't quite right, and there was binding in the tips of the scales when opening, so then it was shimmed open for clearance. Hmmm.

More than likely the bottom one is for reinforcement of the upper one so it doesn't get squashed.

I've had them before but like B52 said, they go a certain way & like Roy said, the lower one is a reinforcement collar, usually steel but I have seen 2 stacked brass.
