I think the only way to feasibly accomplish the task is to use heat. But I think I remember seeing a post from someone (my brain is leaning towards outback) tried it and they just kept getting worse. Maybe a hairdryer when they're held in place?

I have done it by pouring a 180 degree kettle over them while in a bind.
This is just an experiment to see if the silicone goes in and softens the scales.
I have been spraying them down and flipping the whole mess every day.
Wish I had taken a before picture.....They were bad!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

" HEAT LAMP"...!!!
That's what I recommend.
If it doesn't work for ya Tom.
Set them on the window sill, or the dash of a vehicle. Radiant heat works for me. [emoji6]Mike

I have straightened scales before w/o unpinning the razor Shaun. Jamie also did it to the Duck I got for him over on this side of the pond because shipping was too expensive for him to bid on it from home over yonder.
One way I have done it if the scales were collapsed together is with a wedge I made from a scrap of bone about an inch long, pointed on one end & tapered to about 1/4" on the opposite end. Heated them up & put my wedge in, spreading the scales apart & hocus pocus, it was done. There are ways to do it & keep the original collars.Last edited by engine46; 06-01-2016 at 07:35 PM.

What made them warp in the first place? Do the opposite to straighten them...
I have a churchwarden pipe that I put on the dash of my truck. The other day I noticed that the heat from the window had warped the stem. My first attempt to straighten it is to turn it over 180' and see if it bends back straight.

Pretty much what I am trying to do.
The scales had dried-out and shrunk. The front scale with the inlay bulged-out.
I have used this wet type silicone to preserve them for some time. It seems to permeate and bring them back to health, so I figured it may work. I will give it another week and unclamp to see."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
