I have learned a great deal about Carl Monkhouse, including the fact that he came to the US from Germany in the 30's as WWII was inevitable. Big salesman and self-promoter, he produced razors from San Francisco and then to New York as he teamed up with Burrell(Case family) and produced Top-flights and CMons in Ellicotteville along with lots of surgical instruments for the War efforts. He also partnered with AIC for a short while. I have not found who his grinder was, but from the early ones imported by PJM pre-war to the various American examples through the 50's, The signature is there.
His grandson and great-grandson are still in Allegheny in the cutlery business.

The later ones simply had his name upon them as he sold it to PJM, who began to make them in Germany again.
A nice AIC is somewhat rare, but every bit a Carl Monkhouse razor.

You are quite the guy, Andrew!

So...Did you REALLY name them #1 and #2?

My wife doesn't like at all when I refer to them like that, but I think it's funny. Hehehe. My Grandfather use to refer to my Sister and I as Nickems poo, and Nickems poo 2. Might have to start that all over.

My kids all have and have had all manners of crazy nicknames imposed on them by me. I think it is healthy and at times helps to thicken their skin a little so when they need to turn the other cheek it is a little easier. I see you are a modern parent and share all aspect. Good on you. Many people still believe in and promote gender lines.

Yes, I have friends where the Dad won't do things like this because he's "too much of a man" ( Puffed chest and my chit don't stink.) Watches the hockey game while his wife does everything. Makes me sick.

But, I suppose if that's how you're raised......

I believe in balance. I can cut down trees, chop fire wood, hunt, fish and cook, bake and make absolutely perfect icing roses, braid hair, mop floors and scrub toilets. My daughters and sons are all very capable people.

Oh man, these two make my day every morning and every night. I work 10 hrs. Everyday and I can always count on them when I get home.
