Back on what seems the worlds slowest custom job, I have received my newly-inlaid front scale back from MikeB52 and will finally get this done. A bit of light rust formed on the RanTanKaRus Red Devil blade in the interim. I had it stored in a box with some foam and apparently did not apply Tuff-glide before hand. Some CroOx and WD40 should fix it up. Perhaps some light buffer and likely repainting the tang stamps. Here goes!

    Looking good sharptonn.
Got mine in the same state. Got a little more sanding on the scales before a buff. Only thing left is to decide on wedge material.

Nice shape to those scales, Phil!

So since the top pin-holes were a bit wallowed-out, I oversized them to take a light press-fit of some of Babur's nickel-plated brass collars. I never use the pins which come with them as they are stainless. Too hard to peen.
Good stainless nails, though! Some nickel-silver rod does much better, for me.
    Fuzzy pic....

Some careful measuring and the right spacer used, I sized the collars with an old blade using a Dremel-drum.

Some CroOx/WD/piece of crocus cloth on the blade and tang. A bit of polish.

Dabbed some Sharpie oil-based into the stamps. Will let that dry til tonite and work the top off with a DE blade, some Maas on the scales, and pin the thing at the bottom. Hopefully a test-fit at the top will have it closing center.

Nice looking work there Phil! It's coming along good! I've been plugging away on one that looks similar to yours but a different maker. A "Brother From Another Mother"! Hargreaves, Smith & Co. and it's been a workout so far and plenty left to do. Test fits have been good to this point so fingers are crossed all continues to go well. Keep up the good work!!!

Just to ride the band wagon wich y'all.
I too have been busy with a nice Boker. Started last Saturday evening, only working 2-3 hrs. each day.
    Top Razor.

Scales are broke on the b side, so it went into a set of bone scales instead.

But lots of hand sanding, no lower grit than 400. Progressed to 1000, then Emory on the stitched wheel, cr/ox, Maas. Yep...shiny[emoji41]

Have to modify the scales or pins tonite, ( edge touches inside when closed )

Then I can finish honing it.
Pics when I get home tonight.
    Mike

Also working on making a strop... OK, laugh with me not at me, it's my first try at a strop! I found an old (and crusty, yuck!) weight lifting belt for $5.00 a year ago and when I saw it I was thinking two things: a strop and leather for a stacked knife handle, the leather is pretty thick. I recently spent a few weeks cleaning it and getting it flexible with small amounts of neatsfoot oil and then I ordered one of those fire hose linen pieces from ebay and cleaned that as well. I have the hardware from an old junker strop that I'm going to use. The edges of the belt are a little bumpy so I will cut a section out of the middle, wherever I can find the best smoothest part. I know it's not the world's finest leather but I think it ought to work alright. Still need to clean up the hardware too.

Feels very cathartic to be purging out long overdue projects.
The challenge was not to rush the work in ones haste to catch up.
Don't tell the missez but her grout still ain't sealed. That will be in my next lull.
Taking next week off work for a vacation that will actually be a vacation. Or at least time to do what I want, not what I have to. Have a big ole Gilchrist sitting naked on the bench still.
I'd like to have it in new skins for the pending Toronto Area GTG in a week or so.

Tom, that is going to be one sexy Ran Tan brother.
Phil, xiaotuzi, and Mike, equally high praise for good restore work.
