I tried blow torching a piece of horn to see what would happen. This is what I look like after I Steel wool all of the burnt horn off.

I like that too it looks really similar to ivory in person but it's only on the surface. I'm going to start playing with a lot of The horn scraps I got to see what I can do with it.[emoji41]

There was some pitting near the edge. Took a chance. Set the bevel.. found a big chip. Ground a bevels width worth of steel off the edge to get past it.. just got a sticky edge again. 4 hours so far. This puppy better shave.. Har!

I need to go to bed.
Sounds to me that you would benefit to using a coarser stone or wet dry sandpaper glued to a stone or flat surface, 4 hours thats just crazy.

All depends on how much work needs to be done. Four hours is nothing when your dodging pits N chips, and also relevant to a persons honing skills as well.

Yeah it wasn't a solid 4. I ate dinner somewhere in there and called the gf. Took about 45 to set the first bevel, 15 minuted to cuss at it, 45 to knock it back down, then about an hour to reset it. Id say 2.5 to 3 hours solid honing before i jumped off the 1k. the 4, 8 and 12k took less then an hour combined. Just that dang chip in the first bevel..

I was using a carborundrum stone to take the edge down.. that did take longer than expected.

I was also trying to set an even bevel so i was taking it a little slower.

Here's how they do it in Medinaceli, Spain. Takes an extra step out of the process.
