It works for me. I have several old cell scales to preserve!

I like it. I had a look around at old threads for info on cleaning/restoring cell scales didn't find a lot of info, could just be me. I didn't want to try much and risk screwing them up. I will be getting some of that 3m stuff tomorrow and give them a bath if so to speak.

Thanked: 4206So here's what the scales for the Gilchrist are looking like at a mere .085 thickness
Note the bag of bright red looking stuff in the corner of the pic. That's a mineral oil based dye we use to test packaging at work and I decided to try soaking the scales in the solution overnight to see if I can regain some red in the horn.
No idea if it'll work but see no harm coming of it if it doesn't work.
Stay tuned."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Excellent work on the box Tom. I too thought it was going to be some sort of inlay. I also agree with you on Phil's razor. Notice it was only chipped at the edge, the weakest part.
Excellent job Phil.
ejmolitor37 , great job!
I'm still working on my Felt Pad when I can. Pinning it is different with those crazy wedge angles. One scale is a wee bit longer at the wedge & just a bit wider on one side but after sanding on one of them, they will be a-okay!
And xiaotuzi, you seem to do some nice work but please save the scales & any other parts. Here are some of my old scales............
I have other parts too.

Thanks Engine! Nice collection of old scales you have there. Here's some of my loose ones and I have other stuff saved too...
Not to worry, I'll be saving everything!

Thanked: 4206So the red dye didn't really do anything with respect to deepening the existing tones of the scale but I went ahead and finished it up.
Went with nickel rod and steel domes I received from Tom on this one. Opted for a bone wedge as well since I didn't have any ivory thick enough to have the blade stop where I wanted.
Now I have something to hone tomorrow at the GTG!
Here's hoping we have the sunshine again..

Fantastic job and what a razor! I like the scales just the way they are and that blade settles into them perfectly. Beautifully done!
