Got this Pilgrim taken apart a few days ago. Spent a few evenings working with clamps and hot water to get the scales straight. Quick buff on the blade with Crox and Mass. Scales got some light buffing with the steel wool and some material removal to center the blade. Did a mockup last night and left it till this morning to see if the scales would hold their shape (had to straighten em out twice). Got up this morning and all looks well so it should be pinning it up soon.

After this i have a few chipped blades i've set aside. I think it will be time to try making a shorty.

Went with nickel rod and steel domes I received from Tom on this one. Opted for a bone wedge as well since I didn't have any ivory thick enough to have the blade stop where I wanted.

    Thanks bud.

Yes i do.. ive had it for months but all ive ever used it for is to hold the little parts when im pinning. I stumbled across an old post of yours this morning about some domed washers. Got me thinkin..

Ill think ill give making domed washers a shot soon. Especially after seeing the sweet lines on that Gilchrist.

Just gotta look it up and do some SRP light reading so i know what im doing.

Just got a doming block, thanks guys for pointing me toward harbor freight. This will make things a lot easier when working with washers! I'll still continue making the solid brass domes from tubing using the other method but this little set up will give me a lot more options with the washers. The 20% coupon, a free headlamp, and good to go. Thanks again!

    Hum.....Looking at 'Pilger'

"Early 20th century. From German Pilger, lit ‘pilgrim’, after Pilgerschrittwalzwerk, lit ‘pilgrim's steps rolling mill’, so called in allusion to the alternate feeding in and partial withdrawal of the billet during the operation of the mill, which is said to resemble the steps of pilgrims approaching a shrine."

You'll notice I've marked the block for different pin #s, theses seem to work best for me.
    The #5, is for stainless.
The # 5b is for brass.
The #3 is for my small stainless washers, the pin hole must be drilled out after doming ( makes the hole too tight for the rod ) FYI.
