VDH taped and filled, set to the side for (I'm guessing) 7 days. Took a stiff toothbrush, toothpaste and baking soda
to the Strong Set and scrubbed the old soap build up off of it.

    P.S.
I pulled the trigger on a brush purchase. Ordered an Omega 10098.

    My favourite brush.

If you don't like it, you can always use it for house painting

Ya, the Goop is a good purchase as well. Great for tons of things. I buy 2 tubes at a time!

I just released the lid and Boy what a difference in scent! I've put the lid back on and again evacuated the air. I'll leave it alone for another 6 days and see what the end result is.

OH! I did enjoy what I was smelling when I opened the jar.

    Also I have a vintage cook book that was published in 1887 and it's got a lot more information other than just cooking. Here's the 'recipe' to make Bay Rum;

Quote: French proof spirit one gallon, extract bay, six ounces. Mix and color with caramel needs no filtering.
I gave my jar a shake this afternoon and couldn't resist taking a sniff. To my nose it's better than store bought. I can't wait until it's done and I can test shave with it. I like your idea with the vacuum to speed things up. My recently departed Mother is smiling down on us.

I don't see the advantage of using a vacuum in this recipe.

Are you trying to boil the alcohol at room temperature?

Let's just say that I like to 'Play'.
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I made up a batch this afternoon and when it's done I'll bottle it in Dad's old bay rum bottle. So for my friends here at SRP I'll share Mom's recipe--->
5 oz. vodka 90 proof or better.
    1 oz. Jamaican Rum.
    4 large bay leaves.
    1/4 teaspoon allspice.
    1 stick of cinnamon.
    1/4 teaspoon orange extract.
Put all the ingredients into a jar with a tight cap and let stand for 1 week or better in a dark place at room temperature. Shake the jar once a day. When done strain out all of the solids and filter through paper toweling. Use this stuff and you will look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.
Proving that I am old school I printed a copy of this recipe.

When I showed it to my wife she thought I had a recipe for a cocktail.

If anyone tries it let me know how it tastes!

Believe it or not when ever she would make a new batch for Dad he would take a sip of it and tell her, "If it's good for the inside of me, it will be good for the outside."

It removes air and allows the solvent to get further into the leaves. Like when stabilizing.

Made the template, and glued the slabs together, with paper between, and clamped together. Tomorrow we cut Tom's scales.

In the meantime, I guess I'll finish cleaning these two.
