It's not just straight razors, people often 'think' they know how to do something but only foul it up. I'd posted about cleaning up my very good friend (Ski's) cleaver. Not only had someone used a bench grinder to 'sharpen' it they had used it as aparrently a 'wedge' for splitting wood as the spine was literally 'hammered' it took some time to repair the spine and clean up the damage and I left the edge as is.

My apologies for no Pre-Condition pictures, here's the finished deal.



I don't know if Ski's cleaver had these kinds of markings, mine do but I doubt that the dumb ass would have paid attentention to them before taking it to a grinder

You were 'turning' not 'Boring' If you were 'boring' you'd have been creating a hole, not round stock hehehe

Seriously, what you find boring is of great interest to those that have never had the privilege of using a lath to turn a simple square or other shaped piece of wood or other material into an art form.

My blued Beau Brummel blade, ready for remounting

I found after the first application the treatment was 'ok'. But I researched other sites and learned that many warm their steel up first and had improved results.
So 5 minutes in the toaster oven at 175 prior to my second and third treatments. And the results are very pleasing.
The feel is good against the fingers as well. Almost a grip improvement over shiny smooth steel. The surface of the blued metal is slightly etched I suppose. Not sure, but either way, I like it.
Thanks again for that tip Tom. I've seen a few BB's out there that were restored without the re-bluing. Glad for the help before I made the same mistake.
