Thanks so much for these posts Tom! Pinning is something I really need to work on, Im not bad but Im not good. Sometimes it goes great other times I feel like I really suck at pinning.
Like tonight. I pinned that little shorty, everything was lined up with the mock up. But then when I finished I was totally not centered! Damn! Ugh!
Anyway thanks for these, Im watching, gonna keep on trying.
You guys have been busy tonight! Im on page 128 and theres 3 more to go“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Thank you, I'm trying to get better, but I'm still gonna put a little work in today.
..... .... ... so... the scales are looking amazing! ... you switching or was the tru-oil a PITA?
I was looking at the blade, I just don't put enough time in or something, I really need to work on blade finishes.. yours always look spot on.
I think it's time for a detailed blade finish tutorial... with perhaps more than one kind of finish... :-"“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

The truoil was not such a pain, really. These scales were repaired, pieced-together. It certainly hid a lot of sins. For nice horn scales, The Neetsfoot is best, I think. Very little done to the blade. Just rubbed a bit with CroOx on crocus, some WD40, up and down. Some buffer, but not much. This blade was reground lightly long ago and had visible grinding striations, So I just went with that. Still some pitting where the blade contacted the scales, but so what?
Nice blades start with nice blades. I have a lot of rough ones and no belt grinder to learn on. Perhaps some day?
I do better doing less to them, it seems. If I sand too much, grind too much, polish too much, I always liked them better before I messed with them. Besides, the imperfections come with age. Like plastic surgery. Always a trade-off. JMO"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
