Thanks Tom, found some info and your own lovely Heiffor's in an old thread. Would be cool to find an old army issue one. And those, more regal looing pair.... H.S.! Beautiful.

Yea Mike, should be a straight hand sand and polish..
Mike T sent me one I want to make another amber wedge for, or try to.
    That'll be later..

Thanks, Mike! Got that pair many moons ago. They are still literally unused. The boxes in which they came are pristine as well.
Who knew the boxes had a detent to them? They 'snap' as the top is slid on!
    Love me some John Heiffors!

    New scales it is....
Broke at the pivot as I centre punched to drill. Must have been hairline cracks as it was really hard to open.
Ahh, well. Still have some of that mottled african ebony from the 7 day set I think. Might be nice. Also that Blackwood.. hmmm.

Here it is, side by side.. man the spine wear on this thing is horrible.. you probably can't tell. It's even worse on the other side. About 3/8" length of the heel (on the other side), even as wide as it is right now, barely touches the hone. I tried rolling strokes, of course. 2 layers of tape applied, just to get an idea....

The hone wear doesn't look that bad , compared to some i have and have seen.

Should still be able to bring back to a useable state.

Yeah! That heel first! A slight bit on the front. I just hate seeing one straight-honed like that.
    Gonna be some work!

Just can't stay away from this thread....

I got this this last weekend. No cracks I can see near the chip.

I think that I can save the 2 washers!

Any thoughts on how to go from here?

An old regrind, broken. Tons of stabilizer elimination and reshaping, honing from there!
    Lotsa' work!

    Thanks guys.

The hone wear has been conceiled with sanding and polishing, that's why I said you can't really tell.

I agree, it will be some work, IF the owner wants me to do it. As it is, I couldn't even establish a good bevel.. did maybe 100 strokes on my Nani 1K.

I hope you could see from the photo above, I tried to follow the line of the spine in my sketch and that's why the low point is closer to the toe. I also don't want to disturb the toe width very much, because I'd like to keep the position of the notch and the proportion as much as possible. I might move it slightly though... I would definitely measure at the toe and try to keep the same width down the length of the blade.

Anyway this is all theoretical for the time being, it's not even sure that I'll get to it. As I said, the owner may decide not to bother to this extent, if it can't even be honed. I said I'd hone it as a favor, but this is not a simple honing job, as it turns out. Come to think of it, perhaps I'll offer an exchange... a shave ready blade, for this monstrosity Just to get me some practice LOL.

Srdjan, good line, iMO. Follows the spine quite well.

32T, as Tom said, a lot of stab rework for sure to try to get that divot blended out. The rest is cake. Will be a nice shaver. I have one that's a lil gem still..Like almost a 4/8 now little, but still a good edge.
