I agree, it will be some work, IF the owner wants me to do it. As it is, I couldn't even establish a good bevel.. did maybe 100 strokes on my Nani 1K.

I hope you could see from the photo above, I tried to follow the line of the spine in my sketch and that's why the low point is closer to the toe. I also don't want to disturb the toe width very much, because I'd like to keep the position of the notch and the proportion as much as possible. I might move it slightly though... I would definitely measure at the toe and try to keep the same width down the length of the blade.

Anyway this is all theoretical for the time being, it's not even sure that I'll get to it. As I said, the owner may decide not to bother and I will not do this much work for free. I said I'd hone it for free, but this is not a simple honing job, as it turns out. Come to think of it, perhaps I'll offer an exchange... a shave ready blade, for this monstrosity Just to get me some practice LOL.

I hesitate to bring up the word Knife... But for example I picked up a 50 cent 2 1/5 bladed Boker pocket knife this last week also. It won't become my EDC but will become a good little carving/tacklebox blade. It has notches along the stab similar to the chip on the pipe blade.

If I round out the chip to relieve stress areas will it still be to unstable and crack?

Great advise! I like to work on a DMT. Breadboard the ends at an angle till you get them about right, Then a bit more, swooping till about a smooth smile. Try to leave the belly alone as much as possible by lightening up on it.
High-angle hone it on the DMT like a knife, swooping. The add 3 layers, lay it flat ... ... ...
Tom, I think there is a need for a honing workshop meet in your area... hint hint... February would be a good time, after the crazy holidays... I'm sure the Gents will travel from afar to learn the subtle techniques of honing... I'll be one of the wide eyed students! .. no pressure.. I'm just saying..

Okeedokee, before I leave, I fired up the compressor & it felt good to get out in the garage again after being down all that..

Glad you are starting to feel better Steve! The Barbersori... sweet! That should be a fun project, looking forward to seeing the tang work.
After getting the Searsasori back from Tom I realized that it is perfect "as is" with a naked tang.. the work he did in grinding was exceptional. I have no doubt you will make that blade beautiful again too.

Nice hammer! Been seeing all you guys with these fancy hammers and I'm feeling the pangs of jealousy course through my veins! Hehehe
That is a cool idea about the fixing of the bent tang.. very cool. I never thought about it.

Thanks for the great read guys! My idle hands are itching to work... soon, soon.

If you relieve all of the crack, it won't reoccur. Can choose to go with an arc all the way from mid stab to the leading edge of the damage, or just dress out the damage and have a bit of a notch at the heel using a jewellers rat tail file or dremel.
I'd go for the arc myself, fwiw.
    Cheers.
And yes to agree with Tom's post above, this thread is about the work, not gettin paid. Trades, swaps and gentlemanly loans not withstanding. Would be a good project Srdjan, I hope you complete it.

Appreciate the opinion, of course, but I'm not in it for the money at all. I edited that last post, just to be clear. I did say when I first posted, this isn't mine... yet. I just took it to attempt to hone it as a favor and then the ideas started coming, but perhaps I shared too much too soon? Sorry if that came across wrong.
As the time passes, so we learn.

Gotta keep it to the workshop. Srdjan! Not really as much opinion as reminding us. Not a place for advertising.

I'm not in Texas yet. Have been trying to get family to take turns caring for father at the longtime family home.. to no avail. They are too busy. So working on selling his home and getting him into a good place with care. My little atomic family (well we have one on the way, it's a girl we found out today) will be moving. I want Texas, SWMBO wants Florida. ... ... ...
That said, I'm usually highly mobile and live to travel.
If there was a meet... I would be there.
Until February I'm a busy bee. At that point I will be able to go.

Skipped last year. Nobudy took it over, I reckon in March I will do another. Big fun. Looking forward to it!
