Hey my restoration gurus, a quick question. Just came across this Clauss in pretty nice condition but it has this weird, extremely hard black stuff on the blade edge? Tried acetone and mineral spirits and nothing even touches it?! Any ideas on what it might be and how to get it off?
Man, I'm never gonna get this pic rotation stuff figured out!

Okay I searched around, could have done that before asking, but your suggestions helped.
So novelty cutlery co. I looked on the Bay, only a few being sold there so I'll need to keep looking because I'm not inclined to cut down perfectly good scales to get a blade for these scales.
Like I said, if anyone has a good novelty cutlery blade that needs scales.. you are welcome to a set. I've got other projects piling up to the point of insanity!
Just got a W&B celebrated FBU with broken toe for a shorty project, I couldn't pass it up as I've always wanted a big chopper shorty!

Might try cutting it off with a razor blade (utility type).
Looks like devil spit from photoMike

That looks like a home ground bevel, to me. Might be the pic though. Is that devils spit lines? Corrosion, basically?
