Tom, I have seen that same SureEdge on the bay before but they wanted too much. I have a few double concave razors I'll find. NewellVW's razor pic just didn't look like one but that is what it has to be.
I'm pooped. I was busy helping out my friend yesterday. I don't mind helping but when there comes a time when I need some help, I hope I get it in return.

Good day gents. Had a go at honing yesterday and marked the problem spot in red. Very difficult to get that part sharp, but personally, I don't mind, since I don't ever use it to shave. The rest of the blade honed up really nicely, although with 4 layers of tape.

There's still a bit of work I need to do on the blade, basically I will be experimenting with ferric acid to get the etching back... I know this is a long shot, but will try anyway. I mean what can possibly go wrong lol!

After that, it's going to be the scales. Have some streaked brown horn I thought would fit nicely. Currently in process of straightening it, as one of the blanks came bent. Speaking of horn, can anyone recommend a source for better horn blanks for razor scales? If it can't be done in public, PM me? The ones I have look nice, but they're 1/4" and like I said, one was pretty badly bent.

I have used several different sources for some horn scale blanks but the following is one I have used many times but he is in the US:

Buffalo Horn Scales 6” x 1-1/2” x 3/8” (pair) 5404-205-204

I get my bone from him too because it is bleached white & looks good. I have also found some horn scales on Etsy which another member sent me awhile back but I would have to see if I can find it. Also Austin aka ajkenne, a member here sells some horn blanks. Contact him & see if he can help you out.

What honing style are you using.
X strk, rolling x?.
My observation is more material needs removed, hence the wide bevel at the heal. Try to reach the one layer tape bevel, no more than two. Using rolling x strk.
In short... Raise the heal, create more of a smile JMO.
Its worked for me on some blades.

This showed up today! I've been wanting an FWE for some time now, and when this "perfection" popped up I snagged it real fast. It had a cheap BIN, and after taking apart, cleaning, and reassembly it looks fantastic! I was a little upset that it is not a full 8/8, but it has dates carved into the scales to the 50's, so I'm glad it's in such good shape after many years of use.

I don't know if the Thomas Turner Everlasting is one but it has more of a groove in the blade, like a blood groove but we all know it isn't that! My guess was to balance the razor.

Nice collection Steve! You and Tom, your collections are quite expansive. I'm in awe of the depth and breadth of your stores..

I used rolling x mostly, only some selective X strokes to remove excess from the heel and toe. I was thinking the same as you suggest, but somehow as I ground the heel, it didnt seem to want to shrink... So I stopped, but maybe you are right and I need to keep at it. Thanks for the advice and the encouragement

Month of November, start clean shaven on Nov 1 and grow a stache to raise awareness for prostate cancer and other men's health issues.

And yea, it does let you know which way the wind blows for sure once that lip is exposed.
