Not much butchered stuff going on for me lately. Sorry guys!
Have been sitting here, honed the Novelty, worked a bit on some Terrier scales. Applying silver rubNbuff with a toothpick, rubbing it out. Looking better, perhaps a 2nd go will be in order.
Wife is getting ancy to watch recorded football games. Gotta quit!

Ok, since a few of the razors that have passed through my hands, and many more that I have seen, have had those black lines parallel to the spine at the location where the blade and scale meet when the razor is closed (stored).
This common occurrence has been explained as a result of the blade or the scales not being dried thoroughly post shave. Here is a post (sorry I can't credit it) from an Arkansas blacksmith group which I thought was pretty interesting: http://blacksmithsofarkansas.org/wp-...S-RED-LONG.pdf
So the black line is the result of lack of oxygen which explains why it frequently occurs at the location mentioned above on vintage razors. Anyway, I think this pdf is a great description of the colors of rust and what they mean.

    Very nice info Bill.
    Thank you

Hey thats looking great! I really like the wood selection and the shape.. also the texturing of the tang/grip points... awesome. I havent done much of that at all but I think Ill be trying to work more of that in to some designs!

Off-topic, but as-promised, I just spent an hour on my Novelty cleaning it up... ...snip... Attachment 217179
NOW, I have to push it to the front of the honing line for tomorrow's SOTD!
That looks damn good, I really like those kinds of scales with the pics in them, hard to find in good condition. That blade is looking very clean!

Okay here are those two sets of scales. Unfortunately the ones on the the right are broken and wood need thin g10 backing to fix... worth it? Also one of the pics is hard to see.
The other one isnt too bad and could use some polishing up and perhaps paint on the inside to make the pictures more visible... The pics are just paper pictures laminated to the insides of clear scales.
Definitely not perfect. and I dont know what blades these go to.
    Anybody have an idea???
Ill not get to these for a long time if ever so Im offering them for free to anybody who has the right blade or simply would like to try to bring them back to life.
Also remember those other blades some posts back... there are still some available so if anybody needs a project... would love to see them restored to former glory. Ill need to go back and look to see which ones are still available and re-post pics of the ones still available.
Its nice to chip in especially now that Im out of commission with no shop to work in... so....
Thanks for the good reading, Im getting my mindset in gear so that when the shop is back up I can hit the ground running! Oh yeah!

    Fix them..... Please.!!
They seem to be Augustus Vigno scales.
    Made for the Novelty razors.
Feel fortunate to have them bro. He's the first to put pics in translucent scales.

I have no info on him. Do you? Sounds very interesting so far. I'm up for the task, will take some steps, the one with females on it is snapped/broken near the pivot, would need backing.
    Anybody have experience???
    What blades go to these?
Very cool, I'll try to find info... Augustus Vigno.
Well, talk to you all tomorrow. Have fun.

MikeT, I saw a straight with some similar, I'll have to look & see if I can find it. Like Tom, not much going on here either. Damn rain 2 weekends in row! I've been worn out from helping a brother but I have a feeling he will be calling me in the morning. I did manage to get the chips out of the Barber-sori but it isn't exactly the way I want it. I think it is a little wider at the heel but I can fix that.
