This wasn't so much a Butchered Blade as it was received from one of the resident butchers.
Thanks Mike T. Turned out pretty well balanced. Unlike it's re-creator.

Ooh man that looks amazing! I really need to try bloodwood out. I'll try to find some that's got that similar affect. when looking before, I was looking for pieces that were solid red, but that streaking looks great.
10 coats? Jimminy Cricket! Is there a specific brand that works best?
Do you think a food dehydrator would be a good way to dry???
Good work! And fast! I'm in awe.

Mike B. I didn't know that was the blade for those scales.. Good choice of design!
The Blackwood is an oily wood. Doesn't like to glue to things, if you ever try.. make sure to use course sandpaper And possibly scratch it up with a razor a bit to create mechanical adhesion so that it will stick. As far as a finish not wanting to dry, I think Outback is right about the light bulb/heat. Food dehydrator??? Eh eh?
I'm totally going to try the food dehydrator, was looking at one a few months back wondering about a good way to expedite the drying process...
Glad to see that you have created something great out of a blade that sat for years unattended to.

A dehydrator songs like a good idea. Never thought about that. I had one many years ago to make jerky & to do other things.

Well that settles it Steve! I'm gonna start searching Craigslist and other classifieds, maybe the Goodwill, for a dehydrator on the cheap..
This weekend I set up the workshop the rest of the way but didn't have the time to work. But I did get to put a few hours each night cleaning/polishing and oiling all my blades. Going through what I'm willing to sell, next week eBay. Got about 50 blades that are going.
So now I'm working on maintenance.

Too slow IMO. But would probably work, just like the heat the bulb puts out. And use thin coats of tru oil, or you'll have horible runs.
Once the grain is full, put 3-4 more coats on, for smoothing out with steel wool.
