Mike, don't worry too much or lose hope, you're a tough one and from what I'm reading it sounds like some hurdles to jump and then you're good. Good luck my friend! My prayers go out for you and your family.

Thanked: 4206And on that note Tom:
Opened up the WB in wood. No idea what I'm looking at here. I presumed the metal parts made it to the pivot, but no.
Just speculating here. but I wonder if this was originally set in something else, or if whoever broke it did some really aggressive metal work. Anyone ever have a blade that looks like this?

Betcha it had a solid ivory tang, Mike. Would be quite a challenge to make a tang of some nice exotic wood and scales to match? Nah......You can't do THAT? Could you?

Thanked: 4206Original must have been a split deal like what the wood copy tried to emulate. Probably right that it was something exotic like ivory Tom. And now that you mention it, Mike T is into the exotic woods a wee bit ain't he,,, .

Thanked: 4206What manner of medieval machining could have pulled that off I am intrigued to consider.
I have a rack of antler I haven't done anything with to date. Might make some nice alternative to ivory if I could figure out how to work it.
The end drilling seems straight forward enough, but how to lock that cross pin inside the tang,,hmmm.
Those angles may hold the clue. There's a slight taper to the blade at the shank where it met the wood, and the inner blade has a definite angle to it as well. Going to sketch some ideas out.
Thanks Tom, was hoping you or someone else might have seen something similar. I wouldn't have considered solid without that tip.
