The burls aren't stabilized, so just coat one side with ca before taping them together for shaping. I forgot to do that and a set snapped on me.

Ugh... ooooh ouch... that really hurts Mike...
..for you, I require nothing in return.
That would be like me asking Santa Claus to pay for shipping and handling for his birthday present. that would be just wrong.
It may not be your birthday, youre probably not as fat as Jolly Old St. Nick, and you dont sport a white beard... BUT you sure do seem to have a chain-gang of elves slaving away on anvils day and night!

But it will be my birthday next week, the 11th vetrans day.
Thought I was 47, but when I was in the hospital, the doc's told me nope.. 46.
    But who's counting.
Plenty of gray in the goat, and the head.
My chin looks like a skunk is living on it. A white stripe on each side. [emoji23] [emoji23]

Be prepared... Marriage and children will change you quick. [emoji47]

Oh lord Ive been realizing the family thing more and more.. with the wife pregnant and an adhd boy running around like a chipmonk in a skittle factory, its been rough.
Your birthday is coming up aye? note taken. hehehe
Definitely would like to try that shorty out. Ill be chopping that log up this weekend. Trying to figure out exactly the right way to do it because I want it to be quarter sawn, so there may be some waste. I gotta read up again on that again and take a close look, draw out the cuts...
    Ill send out next week.
The wood is about 5000 yrs old. So I dont think its too brittle though I havent worked with this piece yet, and so it may need to be stabilized.
If so Im looking for someone who will stabilize a bunch of blanks for trade and we can get this wood out to you guys that want some...

    Gotta love Homer!
I see bog oak in your future! ... ... ... but you dont make scales (strangely) so I think this will need to be a humanitarian mission to make sure you have some beautiful black mummy wood on the blade of your choice...

EDIT: Oh who was it that said it was more like "mummified" wood...?
Anyway thats the best name for it IMO. sounds cool, and it really IS somewhat mummified..

That is a lovely hunk of Tanic rich Oak Mike!!!
I'd love to be part of the building of Tom's scales if we get there.
Here's what I'm going to be tackling next. Phrank thinks it's a WB, I think it's butchered, but someone did try to save it when the tail broke I presume.

Scales are cellulose or plain ole plastic I think, will be opening it up this weekend. Was hoping the tail survived. Will be another first for me trying to figure out how to build a new tailpiece.
Idea welcome on materials and execution.
