I ain't got nothin' to hide. Not on here. I had a guy ask me where I was getting my teeny weenie stainless collars from after he wanted to burn me on the bay, so I didn't tell him but for those here who can't find 'em because Micro Fasteners doesn't have 'em, a place called Fastener Express does. When people on the bay try to burn me, they get what they deal out!

picked this butchered beauty up thinking i would try my hand at restoring MOP. Now im kinda nervous because i dont know where to even start. One side is relatively fine, the other is missing a piece from both the top and bottom pin area. Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions?

Edit: Maybe ill remove an equal amount from both sides, then find an equally rare material to use for the area that gets pinned? In my mind that would make the pinning process less stressful and nerve racking, and it will still look awesome.

It's doable, matching the pearl can be tough!

I like to use these 0-80 stainless washers. Great for a collarless peening look.Name: uploadfromtaptalk1447692821348.jpg

I've found them at various hardware stores.
Ace hardware carries them as well as micro screws.

I can actually get my brass ones & stainless ones from Fastener Express. The stainless ones from Micro Fasteners I didn't send back because they work good under the vintage bullseyes. The little stainless ones from Fastener Express are 2.99mm-3mm in diameter & my brass ones are around 3.3mm. I have an assortment of different ones in my organizer but I also keep old vintage collars in old medicine bottles & I wire the ones that came from the same straight onto a piece of wire so they don't get mixed up. If I look hard enough, I might be able to find the brass ones smaller.

Mike, that's what they actually advertise them to be, 0-80 but I have seen some places have that size but different diameters. The ID on them is for 1/16" pin.

Yea, I figured that would be hard, if not impossible. I havent read that link yet but will shortly. Thats why i was thinking about just cutting off an equal amount from both sides of the scales, and fitting it with a another material besides MOP. It would still have a lot of pearl on it, and it would be less susceptible to craking at the pins because it wouldnt be pearl on that portion. IDK, still in the brainstorming phase.

In the lower right of my organizer are screws & nuts for mocking up a straight. I don't mind sharing my ideas on here at all. It's like when some will make a set of scales but they will be flat but I have mentioned how I make the radius on them like they are on original straights with the exception of maybe a few really old ones. That's just an example.
When I found Fastener Express, I bought some of their brass collars plus the stainless ones & when I got them, I loved the size of the stainless ones so I bought more. They also sent a list of all the items they have but I think Micro Fasteners does that too.
Jeez, I see my digital caliper is filthy! Shame on me..............
I just cleaned it up. I always kept my Snap On tools clean!
