    Default Pearlex

Hey guys ,some advise please, I dunno what I'm doing

I've been fixing up a pair of my favourite scales, these Hart Steel Pearlex all in one jobbies .

so I cut the join away where the wedge goes and added a wedge, aluminium.

The scales had some deep lines in them , they wasn't finished to the best standard.

Last night I sanded them down , up to 3k paper.

When the light hits the scales I can see 3k lines . I would like a pure gloss finish with no sign of sanding.

What should I use? metal polish and a Dremel? I think I read yesterday that you guys use metal polish on plastic n wood ?

    Cheers .

Yes I've used flitz and maas on plastic scales with a dremmel more than once, actually most of the time.
    But not on wood.
Be gentle....! To much pressure, or working one spot too long will create heat and start melting the scales. But I also like to use a plastic polish and scratch remover called STAR BRITE made for just plastics.
I typically use the leather dremmel wheels also, but the cloth ones work as well.

I have some plastic polish. I bought for a scratch on my speedo. Never thought of that.

I always use these felt wheels (on the right) but do you think I should try this cloth wheel instead (left).

    Cheers Mike

Getting there slowly. Still need to shape it more, than scales, proper cleaning etc.
But moving along with big help from Tom on materials

I have always used Maas or Mothers but I'm sure Flitz will work just as well. I also have some Mothers plastic polish. I have always polished my scales by hand after wet sanding with my finest sandpaper, 3k.
Sorry I mentioned 30k previously in a different post. I'm overdue for an eye exam & I know my eyeglasses need new lenses because it has changed a little.
Those are some gorgeous scales. I hope you can get a mirror polish on them.
