I am also the proud recipient of a magnetic brush. The first thing I did with it was stick it on the medicine cabinet frame. BAM! I recently travelled to NYC and brought my stove in boar for a brush...no way I'm going to pack a brush holder to dry, so I jerryrigged something. Now, thanks to outback Mike...I have the perfect travel brush with built in brush holder!

The one who really deserves the thanks on the brush , would have to go to the original designer.

Same kinda thing happened to me. Was putting the brush on the shelf in the shave den. I noticed my Griffon carbo magnetic was moving like the arm in a compass, and started sliding across the shelf towards the brush. Before I could react....whack.! They were stuck together falling off the shelf towards my lions foot cast iron tub.
But I caught it before it landed..whew!! [emoji47] [emoji26] [emoji4]Last edited by outback; 01-01-2016 at 06:17 PM.

Thanked: 4206Thanks Mike. The real thanks goes to Magnus, the poor Grecian Sheppard.
(History quote coming!)
Legend has it that Magnes was herding his sheep in an area of Northern Greece called Magnesia, about 4,000 years ago. Suddenly both, the nails in his shoes and the metal tip of his staff became firmly stuck to the large, black rock on which he was standing. To find the source of attraction he dug up the Earth to find lodestones (load = lead or attract). Lodestones contain magnetite, a natural magnetic material Fe3O4. This type of rock was subsequently named magnetite, after either Magnesia or Magnes himself.
The ones I made have a mere 3 lbs lift force, your's can guide ships if left in the shaving mug it looks like.
Nice work

Thanks Mike. [emoji23]
Not sure what the lift on these are.
They are earth magnets , size of a dime, twice as thick.
And yes very strong...maybe a bit overkill. Should have got the ones that are the size of a # 2 pencil eraser.... But monkey see monkey do.
Thats a 15" file being held with no problemMike

You also dont need bare steel to get them to hold, a nail in trim molding, or even corner molding behind the plaster works!!

Something different for me: a potential project.
I was dumpster diving for the last time in awhile and dug up this razor. The vendor really has some weak pics on the bay but I knew what the razor was, a Plantagenet razor. I think Tom has one and Neil has posted a really beautiful example of this razor with historical documentation. When I received this razor I immediately made arrangements to send it back. It was already discounted some $40.00 off the original asking price, but the seller offered an additional $20.00 off if I wanted to keep it. Ok it has insane honewear, a ginormous bevel...pits. Still, I am going to see how it will shave (bevel set only so far) and if it is remarkable in any way I might try to spiff it up. Is it worth the effort if it shaves or just keep shaving with an ugly razor...hey, I don't mind having one ugly duckling.
Here it is:

I had one which I gave to Walt Stewart many years ago when he was active here.
Those are heavy wedges and SHOULD have a threaded hole in the middle of the spine to attach a guard.
A couple of layers of tape and hone it up!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
