I just checked the vacuum and pressure pot thread and it appears Mike used alumilite for those Tom.

Thanks, Rez! I just knew you would know!
True-enough, the scales are lined with thin brass, but it (Alumilite) is hard.
The lip on the brush bottom is solid. (Love this set! )

Let the scales sit, Zak! Don't go bending on them for 4 months!
    They will harden right-up.
    That's the ticket!

Mike went to the liner on the scales because the bond on the edge of the urethane and the wood was too weak. It is a fantastic set for sure.

So are Alumilite and urethane one in the same?

In reading through the thread tonight it seems that is the case. My presumption is that alumilite is likely a brand and urethane is likely the type of plastic. When you start to get into plastics it quickly gets very confusing for me. I very often refer to any two part product with what I fell is a generic term, epoxy. I have been corrected on that many many times. In part because I don’t follow or understand the chemistry aspect, it’s all the same to me. We really need to get Mike in this thread to have the broad based true education in the subject of “plastic”. Richard could be a handy resource too, seeing as he did build prototypes for production for quite a while. I’m just a deck ape.

I’m not very big so maybe monkey would have been more appropriate.
My position is more or less deckhand, but because I am a medic they give me a fancy title. However I am pretty much a deckhand with a hobby.

That was actually what I wad talking about in the post right before yours. All good though. Seems like a possibility.
Shokwood seems to be used as a generic term for wood/resin blocks, but only beyondwoodproducts actually advertises that name. Maybe beyondwoodproducts was the one to originally perfect the process and name it.
