Just finished a leather piece, a guy in work wanted something to store his grandfathers Longines Wittnauer compass in. Almost identical to this one.

This was quite awhile ago and I don't have a photo of the one I made.
This photo shows many but not all of the issued items.

    replica 1858 McClellan army Saddle
Built on a 1904 tree, it took a few months of research in the days before internet to get all of the strap measurements and specs. Saddle, skirts, stirrup hoods, coat straps, bridle, halter and leadline, I wove the girth and surcingle, made a nosebag for feeding the mount, a thimble to hold the carbine and the sling for it as well, plus the saddle bags. I even forged out a picket pin. The only issue item I didn't make was a crupper.

I built it for a gentleman, Bill Markley, I met while working on "Dances With Wolves". He and the saddle went on to work in several movies including "Son of the Morning Star" and "Far and Away" and he is now a Western author.

Was the saddle for Bill Markley in the movie "Dances With Wolves"?

It was after Dances that I built it. He first used it in "Son of the Morning Star."

Bill kept a journal while working on Dances and it was published later on as "Dakota Epic: Experiences of a Reenactor During the Filming of Dances with Wolves" I get a small mention or two in the book and there is even a quick sketch of me done By Jim Hatzell, the illustrator.

Bill's latest book is "Deadwood Dead Men."

I like the compass and case. Nothing like a good hand made leather case. With that in mind, I thought I would share a couple of leather cases that I made for my everyday modern pocket watches. Need both a black and brown to go with your wardrobe!

I like the idea of the watch on the belt, instead of buried in the pocket.

I did find in the link you provided where I am mentioned on page 58 as one of the Nebraskans.
Later in the book my tailor skills get mentioned.

I just ordered the NOOK version. I'll find the mention later, in a few hours,,, I'm in the middle of a project. I'll read the book this week.
