For those who missed it, here is the link for the Christmas Special. I'm not sure if anyone outside the UK can view it but decided to post it anyway!

2 things!
I can honestly say I was disapointed with this years Christmas Special. It seemed flat compared to previous years specials, lacking the punch and energy as seen before. Most of the people I have spoken to who saw it have also said the same thing.
But onto other Who related news. Today the Beeb released the name of the next Doctor is a special edition of Confidential that has literally just finished.
If you want the spoiler of knowing who will play the Doctor next (at 26 he is the youngest incarnation by far), click the link!
Matt Smith (XI)

Thanked: 131Are you SERIOUS??!?! According to imdb he started acting 4 years ago! And for every Drew Barrymore there are a dozen McCauley Culkins. This is the most badly cast Doctor Who part since.... well.... Cathy Tait. In fact someone needs to fire the casting director of Doctor Who NOW.
Additional: I've just worked out i've been married longer than the new Dctor Who has been acting. This is not good.Last edited by sidneykidney; 01-03-2009 at 08:55 PM.

To be honest, I don't like it - Matt playing the 11th Doctor -; he really looks kind of weird... and young... very soon they will have to find a teenager to play the Dr... My wife - the real Dr's fan in the house almost had an heart attack -; she would have rather preferred Jason Isaacs, Hugh Grant or even James McAvoy (and I agree with her). Thankfully we still have John Barrowman...

Give the guy a chance! I've thought exactly the same every time a new actor has appeared in the role, especially when Tennant appeared and he turned out one of the best. He could never be as good as Chris Eccleston I thought.
Matt Smith has done some serious quality acting (mostly on stage and so doesn't appear on IMDB) in his short career so wait and see.

Though I do have reservations about Smith I have to agree with Gareth. I didn't like the look of Tennant when he was taking over from Eccleston (I saw Cassanova and wasn't impressed) and he's more than proved his worth.
The only thing I ask the BBC is please, please give the lad a decent hair cut!!

Thanked: 131I loved Cassanova and thought he'd be a great Doctor. Reminded me of McCoy at times. I was proven right. I always thought Eccleston would be a broody Doc and was never that impressed with him TBH. Just like he was in Shallow Grave.
I hope i'm wrong about Smith.

Thanked: 278There are a lot of good things about recent series of Dr Who. Special effects are done well, often subtle, and put to good use. The stories are entertaining, I enjoy watching it when I catch it.
But they have taken a few liberties. I know it's mainly a children's show, but did they really have to dumb it down and make it all emo? All that "power of love conquering all" kind of mentality quite annoys me (although that aspect is far worse in the Sarah Jane Chronicles, the spin-off of Dr Who. <Shudder>)
Was it really appropriate to introduce gay/bisexual characters? I disapprove of using children's programmes to subliminally promote political correctness, no matter how subtly they did it. (Thankfully so subtly that I never even noticed it from the few episodes I watched, it was only later that I read that Cap'n Jack was gay and the Dr had feelings for him.)
But by far the worst thing they did was to totally redefine The Master. He was one of the best characters in the history of Dr Who. An evil genius. The Doctor's Nemesis. The Master was to the Doctor what Moriarty was to Sherlock Holmes. Evil. A genius. An equal match to the Doctor who was ultimately unbeatable.
So what did the new writers do? They stopped him being evil (he was instead just a broken man following a trauma as a child.) They stopped him being an equal (ultimately beaten by the Doctor.) And sin of all sins, they cut off his evil beard.
Seriously, the Master was not broken, they didn't need to fix him. But I guess evil has no place in a dumbed down, emo world.
Sorry for the rant.Last edited by Rajagra; 01-10-2009 at 07:42 PM. Reason: Spelling

Easter Special, Gossip and my Ood finger!
Sooo what did we think of the latest special?
I thought it was quite good, better than The Two Doctors one but there have been better.
Filming on this years Christmas special ended last week, there is a scene involving a space bar (a la George Lucas) where the Doc meets some familiar Troopers in white. But I couldn't possibly tell you who they are.......
And I am now the proud owner of the tip of an Ood finger!!!!! It was given to me by our mate who works on the show as a "Congrats on Squid" present. I'm keeping it safe to give to Nim when she is older though.
Oh yeah, one other thing, 600 posts, wooohooooo!!!!!!!
