i do not hope anyone takes offense, that is not what this is about.
Insert "Muslim" with any other race/ethnicity/religious background. Just because you preface something with "I am not trying to insult" doesn't make it any less offensive. SRP is too good for this nonsense and I don't like that there are bigoted threads remaining open under the veil of good debate.

looks like to me you are not adding anything to the debate other than spewing forth even more hate and discontent because it does not fit into what your views are. you call me a bigot for asking questions for the purpose of learning, if you had read all my post on this thread, you would know this. it also seems that your handle "commiecat" might offend me as an AMERICAN since we have fought many battles against communism, but i have not said anything to you.
AGAIN, you chime in on a thread i start and do nothing to help the process just dump on what i or others think or want to learn about. so from now on i will ignore your comments as being bigoted and hate speech towards others.

Any sources for the claim that people were denied positions simply for being Muslim? I'm not disputing you, but I've never heard of any policies like that in the US armed forces.

Hmm, this is your original post:

why we take any chance with our men and women. there are other ways for american muslims to serve our nation without being in the military.

Sorry, but that is not a "question for the purpose of learning" -- that's a bigoted statement.

Actually, you just proved my point. America has fought against "communism", Vietnamese, Germans, Japanese, Spanish, Native Americans, Italians, Koreans, etc.

I suppose that if I were any of those, I'd be against America. It's absolutely laughable that you comment on my handle, knowing nothing about it. I'm commenting on posts specifically by you in which you suggest that Americans of a certain religion -- the second-most populous in the entire world -- should be forbidden from serving their country.

At least you admit your ignorance.

So, if a white Christian soldier had snapped and perpetrated these killings would the OP be advocating the exclusion of white Christians from the military as well?

Well, it would most certainly help if you clarified your original point. Because a number of people here have interpreted as a statement, not a question. And a statement that is illogical.

Only if it was done on a Thursday or a Monday.

i will not be able to give you specifics since most are classified. but in order to get a top secret clearance for communications tech you could not be a foreign national or have ties to any nation or group of people having any type of extreme views. these were the rules in 1977-1981, things may or may not have changed since then. this was again only for military members holding high security clearances, not the regular troops and sailors or other members. also most officers held some type of clearance depending on their duty.
the whole intent of the thread to glean thoughts about a terrible tragedy to people, not only here but around the world. the only way to ever think of learning and understanding one another is through conversation and by personal experience and through the help of others.
