Thanked: 4206I remember those cartoons! Made an impression on my young wild mind.
Took my rad shell to the only plating shop left in the area, well like an hour and a half away, but whatever..
Yes there was a repair at the cross brace 50 years ago and to me it doesn’t look too bad.
Well, he looks and I don’t doubt his assessment, but $1700 and a year in the shop!!!
Or I do all the dent and filling work, and get it ready for the dip, and he could do it for $600, just the chrome dip…
Damn, had no idea this lil key item would be so pricey… but it’s sort of like the nose, and focal tie in of the whole front end so shit,,,
Merry Christmas to me.
I did find a guy in the States that takes them in and restores them for around 1200 I’m talking to now about a swap.
The price will work out about the same but the guy will save me a driving season if he can get me one in the next few months vs in a year..
No real decision to be made,, just bitching gents. Can’t stop now..
And I knew I’d be into a fair bit of surprises as this went along.
Hopefully one of the last surprises. New bumpers will only cost me half of the above, but I can wait for a sale, or even a season for bumpers. Can’t finish the car without the rad shell..

That really sucks Mike. $1750? Ow! I think I would grab that eBay find Tom posted before it disappeared. Even $850 is a thump on the gonads but better than $1750.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Mike it’s what it is when you build em. I get to where I don’t even ask price anymore cause it would aggravate me, just do it. Or have you thought about powder coating it? They got lots of colors nowadays. Or anodizing,

Thanked: 4206I’m chatting with that eBay guy on Facebook now about it.
Waiting for his reply and maybe we can skip eBay. Then I have my original to attempt to fix without rush or fear of f—k up.
I’d like to try some anodizing actually.
Sure the chrome won’t be new, but as long as it shines up I’m happy, for now.
And who wants to wait another year??"Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 4206Done deal, I’ve secured that unit on eBay, and it includes the grill slats.
Mine aren’t bad. But I’ll run with the better set.
A good day today, and the parts will be shipped out this week.
