I recently joined a rifle club in Scotland.

Now before I joined I looked at their site and it wasn't much to speak of and said it's being updated. Now a monthish in its in the same state.

Now the club has maintenance days where guys go and help fix up the clubhouse and range. But I am not handy lol.

So I offered to help out with the site, as I can do that. People pay me good money for that.

I was met with resistance and understandably so. They had a guy who did it, and got a years fees for free. The next year when he was asked for fees, he left and told them it would cost £1500 to get their site.

My moan is basically his poor show..... And the fact that because of him the guys find it hard to let me help out in a way I know how to...

We have something in common,, I belong to an archery club here that has maintenance days too,,, about 8 days a year,,, depending on what major tournament is coming. I'm not very good mechanically, but I'm a Cleaning Machine (peacetime Marine 79-83). So I took a responsibility that I could handle & most people will not touch. I choose the bathroom as my domain & decided to fix it up & I clean it once a week , takes less than 10 minutes. Everybody is grateful & its an easy task.

The point,,, go to the person who calls the shots at your gun club, probably the president & explain your concern & win his confidence. Ask him what details/tasks are needed at the club,,,, pick one that you can live with.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If the other members are locked into a specific (bad) thought about your abilities or what a new site might do for the club, my advise would be to show them what a new site could look like. Doing the first draft gratis might reap big benefits later on. Also the advise proffered in JimmyHAD 168 is excellent.

My wife got tired of our son constantly leaving his guns lying around, so after a short trip to the hardware store she no longer needs to worry about it.
