Better is a Butan-lighter for pipes or matches.
For outdoor activities it may be work good enough.
    Thomas,

Way to go with the new Zippo! It is my choice for pipe lighting. Don't give up on it.

Try a mixture of 60% Zippo Premium Fuel (Black can) and 40% grain alcohol or 151 proof Rum. You should not be able to discern any petroleum flavor.

The alcohol has a tendency to evaporate qiuckly. You can slow this by putting Vasoline Petroleum around the top of the insert.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL PIPE SMOKING DAY TO ALL!!!

    Sailor,

Looks like the dog needs his bangs cut, I can't see his eyes...

Also, you look a LOT younger than what I pictured...

Burning in the new one (right). The stem is a little off but hay, it is only the second pipe I have ever made. Tried a little different finish on it but it got a little yellow tint. Hopefully the 3rd one will be spot on. They really do change once you get a dozen bowl run through it. The smoke is harsh when new. it mellows out after I get a good cake going in the bowl.

Lesson Learned: A pipe during the morning and evening commute is quite relaxing and seems to cut down on road rage. My pipe on the commute and again on the lunch break:
Longchamp Bulldog (aka The Catchers Mit)
    Edward's Honey Bucc.

Perhaps something a bit more cigary tomorrow.
The older I get, the better I was
