We can't carry or own anything under 4.25" With that being said, chances are I just wouldn't carry.. I don't like being weighed down and we're very safe up here, but I'd like to have the option

I go two opposite directions with my carry guns...

Around the house and back and forth to the shop, especially at night, I carry a S&W 29 snub I have way more chance of running into a Bear, Cat, or Moose then a person... So far I have only run into the Bear and the Moose we all decided that it was best if we reversed directions quickly

When I go into town I carry a Berretta 85 it is light, small, and fast handling and very very discreet ..

Ammo-wise I do my own reloading but any good lawyer will tell you never ever carry reloads, they will use it against you in court if you ever actually have to use a weapon...

I actually have Talons for most every caliber of handgun I own, so those are my choice of carry rounds...

Home defense guns are quite simple here in the Boonies, Marlin 45-70 GG and a 12 guage 870 Riot pump with 00 buck, only two things a likely to come though a window or door out here, either a Methhead, or a very hungry Bear and I want either down fast..

One nice thing about out here though, to get to the house you are trespassing any direction for at least 5 acres, so there is really no doubt about the "Castle law" or "Make My Day Law"

The wife keeps her own weapon at the house, although she can shoot the others, she handles her own .38 snub, extremely proficiently, in fact top of her class during her POST..

Now if we are away from the house, the one rule that we abide by is that every single weapon, has to be in the safe, I really never want to have a stolen gun used in a shooting, that would make me sick...
I had several pistols stolen when I lived in CO, by the guy that built me a pistol cabinet I got all but one back, and it was destroyed, after that I bought a real Gunsafe.

Check out a 4.25 in 1911. They're surprisingly good for walking around and thin as can be.

Thanks for the tip.. And it would have been my firearm of choice if it was legal to do so by any means in this country. Don't need a high-cap mag, .45 has plenty of stopping power for the unarmored thug, and yes, it's got quite a sleek profile. I'll probably get one anyway, for a bit of plinking, but I got higher priorities on the gun shopping list.

Jimmy: My brother in law and his son have the upgraded Hi Powers and they are good pistols. Not many know about the trick of removing the mag safety will improve the trigger action. Some regard it as a safety feature. My mentor told me that if he were in the middle of a pistol fight and had to reload he would like to abililty to fire the weapon without a magazine intact. I tend to follow this reasoning. It makes some folks feel safe to have this feature so for those folks peace of mind it may suit their needs.

I've heard that the Ruger SP101 with 4.2" barrel is legal up there.

Tell you Dwayne, it made it like a brand new trigger. Funny thing is the tangent sight model and the .40 have good triggers with the mag safety in place. I guess what with it being a military issue pistol to start with they figured it was insurance against a recruit who didn't have enough experience or sense to cycle the slide to make sure the chamber was clear. The old ,"I didn't know the gun was loaded."

Guns. On one hand, I have too many. Yet strangely, on the other hand not nearly enough............

For me I am a huge fan of Ruger my EDC is a P89DC that I have had since 93. I have never had any type of problem with it, thousands of rounds thru it. I can put 15 rnds inside of 2" @ 25 yrds (lots of practice with it), and its only 2" because I have to move so I hit paper. On hot day I carry a Taurus PT140 or a TCP738. No 25 yrds yet but I just recently got them and the TCP has had FTF issues, took some mothers to the ramp hoping that helps. Home defense is a Winchester 12ga and #6 bird shot. Next on my list is the Ruger SR1911.
