Gave this little Swedish Gal a fresh edge, not that it needed one but gave me a reason to hone and chase that killer edge.

Thanked: 90Doing a little Suita testing. Comparing the shave from a Ozuku Suita and Narutaki Karasu Suita.

Thanked: 237Interesting, I've never seen or heard of a karasu suita. And it's a monster. How were the results?

Thanked: 90Yeah I had not heard of them either till I found one. Then I started looking and found a few examples from knowledgeable people and sellers. What really interested me in this is that I was told only the Narutaki mine had the characteristic of Karasu Renge Suita and when looking for examples I only found a few and they were all Narutaki stones or unknown mine. Apparently there are Karasu suita from other mines, but they don't have the renge from what I can find. I think Narutaki also had suita with black renge. Another thing that confused me was Karasu is usually from the Asia stratum and not a suita. I think these are from the Tenjyou stratum and definitely suita. Beautiful stone I was wanting a suita and one I could finish a razor on plus I always liked the renge and wanted a Karasu so I got all in one. Unfortunately it is 205 * 75 * 35 mm Weight: 1235 gr. I really like hand honing and I still can with this, but it is a bench stone. I don't find that most suita was cut smaller most likely because it was mostly used for the wood working, knife and craft world.
Now the results were more than I expected. Two different stones both in the 5lv area of hardness the Ozuku maybe a Hon stratum, but has pink layers on the side and blushing on top it feels like it might be a bit harder than the Karasu, but I couldn't tell from the shave. Both sides of my face and razors felt almost exactly the same. The Karasu side might have left the skin feeling just a touch more on the soft side, but both were way more finishers then I would have thought from a Suita. Zero irritation of any kind three passes one ATG two WTG. Skin felt very smooth and refreshed. I do have a old thin Nakayama Suita, but it is so hard I would classify it as a polisher and it will create edges that are more on the super keen side of things still smooth, but not like these. I need to play with all three of them for a while and see though. I am really just starting to play with suita stones. I haven't even tried them with a knife yet.

It's just a colour
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
