Thanked: 13245Sometimes :(
You know that a day of honing is NOT going well when you have to drop onto the Naniwa SS 400 and use a Cutting Slurry to restore the rough bevel
Getting closer by the "Hour" of all the names I have called this razor Wade & Butcher is not one of them
That is using 5 layers of tape, after lifting the spine on the DMT 325 to start the edge restore,, "Honing is so fun"
Hone On my friends,,, may your day be going better then mine is
Back to the Grind (pun intended)

Welcome to my normal. being new to this hobby I get to work on those type of blades all the time. Buying on Ebay and not knowing what your getting in a major contributing factor. Thanks for giving the time factor. Sitting alone honing, I wonder why it takes so long and I get a sore back. Now I know I am not alone.
Your only as good as your last hone job.

Yep... We've all been there before, and will again.
Glen..... Thats what I was talking about the other day. Using the 400 to rough set a bevel, and the 800,1000 to join. Had a few that I've gone as far as a 220SS before the 400SS. Just to shorten my time some. I like the dressing stone too. Made my hands hurt, reading your post.[emoji6]

Thanked: 13245Yeah they happen
Honestly if this razor were in my control, I would have seriously thought about a re-grind on it,, the geometry is just at that tipping point of it's life
I Hate Hate Hate re-grinding old wedgey razors unless they are truly at the end of their life span, once that steel is taken off it ain't never going back on there...
But all is well that ends well, finished it up on my Coticule today after the 1-5-10k Chosera... Used a nice smashed slurry and got the buttery soft edge that these old Sheffield's should have
Keep on Honing !!!!!

Thanked: 2284Tonight I got this Puma 76 finally honed up, and I tell you, it was a treat. This is my first Puma, and the edge it took is just amazing. Progression was King 1k, Norton 4/8, Sigma PS ii 13k, Zulu grey. I did 12 very light strokes on the Sigma and finally 40 very light strokes on the Zulu. Popping hair tips very easily.

Thanked: 351I'll keep this short. My Jnat is in the house, preliminary tests show it as superb, butter smooth. I have Nagura stones as well... I hope to give it all a good workout come this weekend, time permitting. In the meantime, the feel is exactly as Garret described, which is all I could ask for.
